Ringmaster - Manager of this
WebRing
- Who is the Ringmaster
- Hi, I am Mark Beatty, the "Ringmaster" or
"Ring Manager" of the Underwater Photography WebRing on
Yahoo/Webring and the Underwater Photo Ring on Ringsurf.com. I started the ring as an effort to bring together underwater photography web sites
both for the active underwater photographer and those interested in our work
(play, hobby, etc.). I have been doing underwater still photography and
slide shows for area clubs since the early 1990's. In the last year, I have
also started into Underwater Video. Some of my past photography is at http://www.uwpix.com
-
- I am also the webmaster for this site, and web sites
for the Gavia Scuba Club
(Cincinnati, Ohio); Underwater
Images, an annual national underwater photography and video
competition, and the company I work for which is in no way related to diving
or photography. I recently introduced UWPhotographer.net, an underwater
photography information and resource site. I am by no means an HTML expert, but I can usually look and
help find problems. I use FrontPage 2000 currently to create my sites.
I receive nothing for serving as Ringmaster, except the opportunity to
interact with others in underwater photography, and see some great photos.
As with all other members, I get the advantages of web site exposure by
being linked to other web sites on the same subject.

-
- Duties of the Ringmaster
- As ring manager, I use the free services of Yahoo/WebRing
to maintain the Underwater Photography Webring and RingSurf.com to maintain
the Underwater Photo Ring. As the creator of these rings, I had the opportunity to
define who can join, how the ring functions, and the general look of the
HTML fragment (within the parameters of the each system). I will attempt
to make sure the rings stay on subject by qualifying what sites fit into
them. Sometimes I will suggest other web rings for sites not
significantly related to the subject. If you notice a site you don't think
fits, or has changed since joining, please notify webmaster@uwphotoring.com
.
-
- Why two Rings?
- This all started with the ring on Webring.org in
1999. On September 5, 2000, Yahoo took over Webring.org and made significant
changes, mostly to the detriment of the ring, it's users and management. The
second ring was started shortly thereafter as an alternative to those who
miss the features of the old system. The rules for site membership are
identical for both rings. You can join either or both rings, but the new
ring will offer more to you as a member in most cases.
-
- Philosophy
- This ring was created to showcase underwater photography
and video, both amateur and professional. It can also be a good source of
information on underwater photo and video equipment, repairs, training, and
travel. Sites who fit into these categories and enhance the group as a whole
are welcome to join.
