Frequently Asked Questions

- What is a Web (or Net) Ring?
- A web ring is a group of web sites on a similar interest that place a
navigational banner on their site to connect to each other.
- Why should I join a Web Ring?
- A web ring is a way for people interested in a particular subject to find
information easily. Being linked to other similar sites allows a web surfer
to find you more easily.
- Why should I join this
ring?
- This ring is to help clubs connect with each other. It will allow people
looking for a club find you more easily being grouped with others. It will
also be a good resource for clubs to see what other clubs are doing on and
off the Internet. You could join a general SCUBA
ring or Underwater Photo Ring, but
those looking for clubs will have to search through photo galleries, dive
shops, resorts and many other types of Scuba related sites. This ring will
be a more refined subject.
- Is it really FREE?
- Yes. Ringsurf provides the service
in exchange for some banner views on their directory and on some lists of
ring sites. NO ADVERTISING goes on individual sites. The Ring Manager does
it at no charge to get more hits to his own club's web site.
- Who owns this ring?
- The ring was started and is managed by Mark Beatty, the webmaster for the
Gavia Scuba Club of Cincinnati. The hope is really that every ring member
will feel some shared ownership in being part of a web community that shares
not only links, but information.
- Can I customize the
banner for my site?
- Yes, The ring banner must have the required navigational elements but you
can change the layout, font size, type, and color, and general layout. You
can do an all text version as well if you wish. Some ideas on layout are here.
- I can't see the
graphic logo on my site?
- You will need to save the graphic to your computer and upload it to your
web server or host. You may need to change the logo URL in your ring HTML to
point to where you've uploaded it on your site. Note that with UNIX/Linux
servers, the name is case sensitive, and clubring2.gif and Clubring2.gif are
NOT the same file name.
